In order to best serve the students, Annunciation Catholic School uses different approaches for different ages. Each class is self-contained with students focusing on one teacher for all of the basic subjects - religion, reading, math, science, writing/language and social studies. Spanish is offered twice a week for students in grades 2- 5 and one time per week for students in JrK-1st. JrK through 4th grade students attend computer classes once a week and 5th grade students go twice a week and have robotics. Physical education classes are offered three times a week for grades PK - 5 and twice per week for JrK. Elementary students attend library, music and art once a week.
The middle school (grades 6–8) is departmentalized into six major areas: religion, language arts, literature, math, science and social studies. In addition, multiple times per week, students participate in Spanish, computers, physical education and once a week have music and art. In order to better meet the needs of all students, some courses are gender grouped and/or smaller learning communities are created. Students have the opportunity to participate in many programs which enhance and enrich the core program. Band, guitar, Future City, Speech and Debate, Chess and Faith Challenge Bowl are examples of the extracurricular activities offered.
1:1 iPad Program
Annunciation Catholic School has implemented 1:1 iPads for middle school. All Middle School students will be assigned their own iPad to use in school and at home to do their class work.
Why iPads? iPads enable us to better provide all faculty & students with a technological tool that will enhance student learning and achievement while bringing higher order thinking skills to a new level. This tool will afford students greater opportunities to be productive students and citizens in a meaningful way as they enter a global environment that will require greater technology skills, collaboration, and teamwork.
