Mrs. Shields is married and has three sons, one daughter, four grandsons and one granddaughter. She received her BA in Psychology from St. Mary’s University in Winona, MN. She continued her education at the University of New Mexico where she obtained her K-8 teaching license. Her MA in Curriculum and Instruction was awarded from the College of Santa Fe. Mrs. Shields has worked with children for over 35 years. Three years were spent working in a children’s home in Mesa, Arizona where her oldest son was born. The family moved to Albuquerque in 1980 and both she and her husband have been working for the Archdiocese ever since. Mrs. Shields taught at Our Lady of the Assumption School for 18 years and this is her 16th year as the principal of ACS.
Her favorite past times are playing volleyball, softball and golfing. She also is an avid reader and keeps current with the latest educational trends. Her favorite memories from school are watching the ingenuity of the students out on the playground. The most fascinating was watching the 4th and 5th graders create an obstacle course so they could be the next “American Ninja Warriors.”
Mrs. Shields is passionate about educating the whole child, spiritually, emotionally and academically. She is very proud and thankful for the caring, hard-working, innovative staff at Annunciation Catholic School.
