Coach Mele went to college at Slippery Rock University in Slippery Rock, PA located between Pittsburgh & Erie. She been an educator for 38 years teaching, 15 years at ACS. She has been an aerobics instructor/exercise coordinator for a health spa and loves being a mom.
“One of my favorite memories of teaching is when I first got started. I had an opportunity to go back to my high school. My younger sister was a senior at the time. So during one of the study hall duties, a young man became pretty talkative with me & at the end of the semester he presented me with a cutting board he made in woodshop. I still have it today!”
Coach Mele is definitely a kid at heart which is evident at the annual ACS Talent Show. “To see the kid’s expressions when you are out of character is a treasure. It goes to show them that you are never too old!”
As an avid Pittsburgh Steeler’s fan look out for the black & gold! When there are not any home projects going on, she takes the time for a bike ride along the Bosque, a hike up in the Jemez or goes golfing anywhere.
She has always been an active person and instills that in her students. Her motto is “you got to move it, move it!” There are so many type of activities out there for kids to do that she tries to expose them to as often as she can. “Hopefully something will stick with them for the rest of their lives & they will be able to enjoy a happy, active lifestyle.”
