School-wide Learning Expectations (SLEs) were originally developed by ACS staff in the spring of 2015. They are revisted each year by the staff to discuss and make changes. They were updated in 2017 and again in 2022 to ensure that they remain relevant to the ACS community.
SLEs are what is expected to be embodied, demonstrated, understood, and lived by graduating 8th grade students but will be addressed from JK – 8th grade. These are not only expectations for students but should be embraced, learned, modeled and guided by the entire adult community: parents, teachers, staff, administration, pastor, volunteers, coaches, etc.
Annunciation students will be faith-filled, active Catholics who
As of October 1, 2022 we have 422 students currently enrolled.
403 students are Catholic and 19 students are non-Catholic.

School Expectations
Service is one of the main components in our school identity. Our Mission is to create a Christ-like and learner-friendly environment to better serve God and community. Being people of service is integrated across all areas of the curriculum and is evident in all that we do. Students are taught about Catholic Social Teaching at all levels. We strive to live out the Gospel message in our words and actions. Each class also takes part in school-wide and class-specific service projects to broaden our world-view and incorporate the works of mercy in our community.

Parish/Regional Schools
A Parish/Regional school, which includes Preschools and Elementary Schools, is part of the educational mission of the parish/deanery for which the Pastor/Rector is the canonical administrator. The Pastor/Rector delegates administrative responsibilities to the school Principal/Preschool Director, who is accountable to him.

Areas for Council consultation and support include: planning, public relations, marketing, enrollment management, advancement, development and other areas identified in the strategic plan and approved by the Pastor and Principal. Duty Schedule
ACS has been using a standards-based curriculum for over 10 years. When we first started exploring what a standards-based curriculum involved we decided to use Robert Marzano’s company and received training from people in his company. That was a starting point. During the next few years principals and teachers were interested in using standards also. We met with different schools over the years and various experts came to do some training. We as an Archdiocese agreed on standards for math and language arts. In 2018 we came across a company, Beyond Textbooks, that had everything we had been working on over the years completely done. ACS decided to go with that company. We spent the next few years generating “essential standards” taken from the complete set of standards. These are the standards that we use on our report cards JK-8th grade.
Our primary source for Curriculum mapping, standards-based planning, and assessment is Beyond Textbooks: https://www.beyondtextbooks.org

Assessments
Star Math and Reading are administered to the entire school body five times a year.
Formative and Summative assessments are administered in all grades, throughout the year. These assessments can be paper pencil, oral presentations, projects or group presentations. As often as possible students are give choices on how to showcase their understanding of a standard.

Student Support
The first support students have are their teachers. Teachers building relationships with their students is stressed continually. Workshops such as Capturing Kids' Hearts supports that concept and many of the strategies learned in PD are put into place in the classroom.
Students also are encouraged to support one another. Buddies from all grade levels meet reguarly. The younger students look up to the older students and the older students have a sense of responsibility for their buddies. We are utilizing Jeff Veley and his programs "Peaceable approach to verbal aggression and Squabbles. It is a unique program with many components. We started it in Spring of 2022. It is our goal to get the students and teachers more training in January 2023.
We have a full time counselor on staff and she works with students individually, small groups and classroom settings. Students are experiencing hardships both big and small and her presence and counseling are invaluable.

Capturing Kids' Hearts Overview
Statement from Annunciation Catholic School Counseling Office:
"As counselors, we have the privilege to work with every single student in the school. We plan on working with students at the classroom level, small group level, as well as at the short-term individual counseling level. I will also be meeting with parents, collaborating with teachers and staff, to meet the needs of all ACS students.
CLASSROOM GUIDANCE LESSONS: These lessons will be presented in the classroom for students in grades JK-8. Lessons will teach developmentally appropriate, preventative lessons to all children.
GROUP COUNSELING: Group counseling is provided for small groups of students experiencing similar concerns. These may include making and keeping friends, anger management, coping with separation/divorce and or loss, getting organized/study skills and/or improving self-esteem. The groups generally range from 4 to 6 students and last as long as deemed necessary. The students for these groups can be recommended by parents/guardians or by staff members.
INDIVIDUAL COUNSELING: Short term one-on-one counseling support is available to all students in grades JK to 8. Students may self-refer or be referred to the counselors by teachers/staff and/or parents. Confidentiality is respected.
CONSULTATIONS: I am available to have meetings with teachers, administrators and/or parents to discuss the needs of individual students. I am here for all students and want to ensure that your child has a productive and positive school year. If we can support your child in anyway, please don’t hesitate to contact us.
Any student can request to meet with either of us or they can be referred by a teacher, administrator, or parent. We encourage you to reach out if you have concerns regarding your child.
**Confidentiality**
Please note that all information discussed remians confidential between your child and me, unless they are planning on hurting themselves, hurting someone else or someone is hurting them."
